Diski Kidz Soccer Schools is an initiative that was formed in 2016 by Sports Science Graduate Takalani Bagani, with an aim to provide boys and girls between the ages of 6 to 13 who have an interest in the game of football with proper coaching.
Our goal when we gave birth to the Diski Kidz initiative, was to give children who come from areas whereby there is not a lot of sporting programs ,a platform to express themselves in a fun, pressure-free environment that is conducive to learning. The Diski Kidz program is based at the outer fields of FNB Stadium in Nasrec (South of joburg) and also operates in primary schools ,assisting them in carrying out their Physical Education curriculums.
Since its inception in 2016 to date, we have trained and given a platform to over 500 children who come from all corners of the City. Some of the skills that are taught and enhanced in our classes include, motor skills such as balance, manipulation, co-ordination, etc, while also encouraging to make friends and instilling the importance of respect of self and others regardless of race or gender.
Diski Kidz currently runs an annual Soccer tournament called the Joburg Diski Festival in partnership with Stadium Management South Africa. The 1st edition was hosted in 2019 however, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the 2020 Event did not take place. The event caters to 6 -13-year-olds and activities include stadium tours of the iconic FNB Stadium, family orientated games, ball jugglers, etc the number of people in the 1st edition was close to 1000.
